The Ice Co annual charity day was once again an amazing success raising a total of £433.00!
J Marr, the parent company of The Ice Co, also announced they would be adding a sum of £8000 to this year’s annual charity pot, all to donate to charities closest to our employee’s hearts.
With an exciting day ahead, we got to work to raise as much money as we could for our favourite charities!
To help raise the money we had lots going on including our yearly ice bag throwing championship, where you have to try and throw a ice bag as far as you can. Take a look at some of our team’s faces during the contest…
Our longest thrower was Ben from our sales team, throwing 25m!!!
We also played a game of ‘chucks’ – a competition to see who could throw a coin closest to the bottle of champagne. Adele our lovely receptionist won this and bagged herself a day off and the bottle of champers to celebrate.
We also had our own mini bake off competition! The winner was a tasty Oreo cheesecake, which was delicious. Safe to say the entries were enjoyed by all staff afterwards!
Peter, our Operations Manager wanted to “Brave the Shave” for Macmillan. Having never shaved his head before, Pete nervously sat in the chair and let Eleanor from HR loose on his locks all in the name of charity, raising £100 on the day to contribute towards his total fund. (P.S. We love the new look Pete)!
See his before and after pictures below:
Food was provided by A&S catering, serving up BBQ street food for all our staff and with the sun beaming down on us, it was only right we had the local ice cream van come and offer everyone ice creams to help keep cool.
Throughout the day, employees were nominating charities they wished for the money raised to be donated to. With so many of the charities affecting employees personally, the Marr family decided they wanted to split the charity pot between all nominated charities.
The main donation for 2016 was to a small charity in Newcastle called “Our Milo” to which £1000 will be donated. Milo is an 18 month old boy who has had an awfully complicated life so far. He needs specialist care and to help him continue to receive this support, every penny raised really counts.
Read Milo’s full story on his Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/Milothesoldier/about/?entry_point=page_nav_about_item&tab=page_info
& if you would like to donate you can do this on his Go Fund Me page here: https://www.gofundme.com/our_milo
The remainder of the pot will be donated equally between all other charity nominations, with each receiving £465, as each and every charity nominated effects an employee of the group in a personal way. The list of nominated charities which will receive £465 are:
Debbie James: A local lady who is raising money to receive cancer treatment overseas
Alicia Freer: A local lady who needs cancer treatment in Germany.
Histiocytosis UK: HLH awareness fund in memory of Chelsea Jackson
Coppafeel: Breast cancer awareness charity
We look forward to our annual charity day in August 2017 which will be even bigger, date to be announced in the New Year.
Keep up to date with all of our fund raising days and see what we are up to next by liking and following us on Facebook and Twitter.
