Going green...

Ice & Energy

We are committed to continuous improvement in energy use, performance and consumption and will also continue to introduce green renewable energy wherever it is commercially viable.

Future energy plans...

The Ice Co is part of the J Marr Group and green initiatives are an important part of planning for our future. Wherever practical we will pursue, introduce and manage energy efficiency within our transport, buildings, plant and equipment.

We have ambitious plans to save more energy. Through investment and funding we are implementing energy saving technologies.

Wind Turbine & Solar Panels

2015 saw the installation of a wind turbine at the South Kirkby site, with every bit of electricity produced being used by the site.

Later in the year, solar PV panels were installed on the roof of cold store 1 giving another source of clean energy we utilise on site.

LED Lighting & Energy Efficient Doors

Local funding has helped with the installation of power saving LED lighting across all sites as LED lights work more efficiently in cold temperatures and do not produce much heat which has proved ideal for the cold stores.

Energy efficient access doors to our cold stores are easy to repair and stop influxes of warm air into the stores when product is being moved in or out. These have been fitted at South Kirkby, Wallsend and Glasgow.

Our refrigeration partners, Star refrigeration, are rolling out the fitting of the latest ETHOS software for managing energy and monitoring plant efficiency and maintenance throughout the group.

We are also at the forefront of energy saving projects such as generating our own electricity.
