Top 5 Cocktails for National Rum Day

The 16th of August marks a special day for rum connoisseurs, it’s the day you can dust off your bottle of aged rum and say cheers with a glass to National Rum Day! Bars as far as New York are celebrating the occasion by offering customers specially selected rum cocktails. Here at The Ice Co we do love a rum or two, especially when it’s paired with a couple of our Super Cubes.
Super Cubes melt extremely slowly (if you didn’t know already), serve with rum for little dilution meaning you’re promised to all the intense flavours your favourite aged rum has to offer.
Here’s 5 of our favourite rum cocktails….
Rum Old Fashioned
Traditionally an old fashioned is served with whiskey, to stir things up we’ve switched it with rum which tastes just as good. The key to making this cocktail is to add 1 Super Cube at a time and to stir slowly. It’s well worth the wait! Recommended rum: Don Papa
Ingredients:
X 2 Super Cubes
X 2 measures of dark rum
X 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
X 1 splash of water
X 1 tsp of sugar
Garnish: Orange peel
Method: Add bitters, sugar and water to a lowball glass and muddle until dissolved. Add 1 measure of rum, 1 Super Cube and stir slowly. Add the remaining rum and ice and stir. Twist the orange peel over the drink to slowly release the oils. Pop into the drink and serve!
